Richly detailed tapestry inspired by the figurative work of Vittorio Zecchin (1878-1947). Born on the glass-making island of Murano, Zecchin was influenced by Art Nouveau artists including Gustav Klimt but also found inspiration in Venice's Byzantine, Medieval and Renaissance traditions. His most notable work, from which this design is taken, is an opulent 100 foot series of a dozen canvases depicting the procession of Aladdin and his entourage produced in 1914. Intended for the dining room of the Hotel Terminus, it was later scattered between diverse public and private collections.
