Bayeux Tapestries

The world famous Bayeux Tapestry tells the story of William the Conqueror's victory over the English at the Battle Hastings in October of the year 1066. Measuring in at about 20" x 230' (yes, 230 FEET), this incredible piece of work isn't really a tapestry, but rather an embroidered cloth most likely commissioned sometime in the 1070's by Bishop Odo of Bayeaux, who was the half-brother of William the Conqueror. The first time a mention of this historic tapestry appeared was around 1476 when it was listed in the inventory of the Bayeaux Cathedral.

Bayeux tapestries, reproducing sections of the historic tapestry, are woven today by Belgian and French tapestry mills on jacquard machines and then hand finished. The 11th century historical masterpieces such as Mathilde, Battle of Hastings, William the conqueror, and Duke of Normandy are still available today in the beautifully crafted reproductions we have here!
